The Board of Trustees of The Montvale
Free Public Library is seeking a talented and highly capable
director who is also a dedicated, hands-on librarian. (See job description.)
Montvale—with 7844 residents, according
to the 2010 Census—is a suburban community in northern New Jersey,
located less than an hour’s drive from New York City. It
boasts an excellent school system comprised of a K – 4 elementary
school, a 5 – 8 middle school, and a high school with a graduation
rate of 98%.
The 15,000-square-foot Montvale Library
occupies most of the first floor of a municipal complex which also
houses the Police Department and all Borough Administrative
departments. Circulation exceeds 116,000 annually.
In addition to the director, staff
members include a full-time Youth Services Coordinator, three
part-time professional librarians, a part-time Adult Program
Coordinator, and eleven part-time library assistants.

from qualified individuals who should have a minimum of three
years of supervisory experience in a public library.
Exceptional interpersonal skills are required. MLS/MLIS from
an ALA-accredited institution and a New Jersey Professional
Librarian’s Certificate are necessary. This is a full-time
position requiring day, evening, and weekend hours. Also
necessary: compliance with the residency requirements of the
New Jersey First Act within one year of the date of hire.
Excellent benefits include medical,
dental, vision and pension (Public Employees Retirement System).
Salary range: $75,000 - $85,000.
